Frequently Asked Questions
Since SCH is a computerized system and not human, there are some tricks to making it work properly. Here are some things to remember:
If you need SCH to repeat a question when you are reporting in a telephone call, just press the # key.
Sometimes the system may pause. This may happen after you enter an answer. Please wait, SCH is just thinking.
You may be asked about your medications. If you have not taken the medication, you will be asked a series of questions about why you did not take them. For some symptoms you may be able to answer “yes” to more than one reason, so be sure to listen to all of the questions.
Be sure to answer all the questions and allow SCH to end the phone call. This will ensure that all of your information is recorded properly.
What if I have an urgent or life-threatening problem, or am extremely concerned about symptoms?
Contact your physician or clinic immediately for urgent problems or if you are concerned about your symptoms. Call 911 if you have an emergency. Be your own advocate.
Why do I need a PIN?
Your PIN (personal identification number) is designed to protect your privacy. By using a PIN, no one else will have access to your information.
What if SCH does not seem to accept my PIN?
Be sure you are entering the phone number you used to enroll in the study. If your PIN doesn’t work, please try to enter it again. If it still won’t work, call the study office.
What if the SCH telephone line is busy?
The line should never be busy. If you hear a busy signal, please hang up and try again. If you are still having trouble, call the study office.
What if I forget to report my symptoms?
If you forget to report before noon, complete your report as soon as you remember. SCH can take receive information at any time, 24 hours a day. If you forget to report or don’t complete your report, SCH will call, send a text, or a pop-up on your smartphone will remind you to finish. If you miss a day, start your reporting routine again the very next morning.
What if I didn’t hear the question when I am reporting on the telephone?
If you’d like SCH to repeat a question when reporting on a telephone call, press the # key.
What happens with my information after I report into SCH?
Your daily symptom information will be stored in our database for future analysis.
Will my doctor see the information I enter into the phone?
No. Your doctor will not see the information you report into SCH daily. Please call your medical team directly if you have any symptom concerns.
What should I do if I push the wrong button by mistake?
If you realize you have pushed the wrong button you should hang up or exit the SCH system immediately and then call back or log back into the app or website. SCH will start at the beginning of the section you were working on, so some questions may be repeated. If you do not hear the question that you had hoped to hear, it is possible that it was the last question in that section. In that case, call the study office.
What if the system hangs up or freezes on me before I finish my report?
If you are reporting in the SCH app:
Logout of the app
Quit the app
Restart the app
Log into the SCH App
Click on "Daily Interactions"
If you are reporting on the web-portal:
Log out of the web-portal
Close your browser
Open the browser and go to the SCH webportal
Log into the Portal
Click on "Daily Interactions"
If you are reporting on the telephone:
Calling the SCH number again
Follow the directions to log into the SCH telephone system again.
If you continue to have trouble, call the study office number and let the study staff know. Remember to identify yourself and leave a call back number if you leave a voicemail message.
What if I need to take a break and finish my report later?
If you get interrupted or need to hang up for any reason, SCH will remember which section you were listening to. When you talk to SCH later that day, it should pick up at the beginning of that section. It may repeat questions that you have already answered.
Why can’t I tell SCH about my other symptoms?
To limit the length of the reports, we have chosen to study only the most common symptoms. We realize you may be experiencing other symptoms. Please make sure you discuss these with your medical team.
